We are already into the second week of March, and that means the frenzy of collegiate basketball is completely canvasing the United States. From coast-to-coast and court-to-court, teams are competing for the honor of cutting down the nets and taking home the championship. This year is particularly exciting since there was no tournament last year, but I’ve learned a great deal about this earthly sport since then. The anticipation is out of this world—and when I say that, I know what I’m talking about!
This game of basketball and the excitement that comes with the tournaments always get my eyestalks quivering. And, I must attest that I tune all of the monitors in my spaceship to the plethora of games going on. Add some calamari and pork rinds and you have one happy hoopin’ alien!
March is also a very important month in the mortgage world, as it sits at the cusp of the spring home buying season. As I was watching one particular blow-out game last evening, I slipped into a bit of a dream where basketball madness and the mortgage experience melded into one, featuring the team of your member, your credit union and myCUmortgage. Here’s what it looked like…
It was early in the month of March. Your member—a.k.a., the borrower and home buyer—was focused on finding their dream home. Much like the teams vying for a spot in the big dance, your member scouted the field and had a game plan in place. Because of this, the member “won” their conference title by finding a Hall of Fame house. Next stop: Selection Sunday.
Okay, so it doesn’t need to be on a Sunday, but now’s the time for your member to team up with the best mortgage lender in the field—your credit union. A new partnership is formed, one that will ultimately feed assists to the member so that their new home purchase is a slam dunk.
It’s tip-off time as your member takes control of the ball and drives the lane for the first score of the game—the completion of their pre-approval. The first half moves at a steady pace as the member works with the loan originator to flawlessly execute the game plan.
Halftime comes and goes as myCUmortgage underwriters, loan processors and coordinators lead us through the second half. The member and the credit union work closely to ensure the entire playbook has been covered. If not, there’s always the risk of overtime, which is when the real madness sets in. (But don’t worry—even if they went to overtime, the credit union and myCUmortgage have the member’s back.)
The shot clock has been turned off and the game clock is running down. Together, the member and the credit union sink the winning shot to win the game and head to the closing table. Your teammates at myCUmortgage enthusiastically applaud and take photos.
The nets are cut down and the trophy—which looks coincidently like a new set of house keys—is presented to the member. The next thing we see is the key opening the front door of the member’s new house. One Shining Moment plays as the member takes the first of many memorable steps through their dream home.
All of a sudden, I hear the blare of the final horn from one of the nail-biters being broadcast in my ship. Even though I’m now completely awake, I can still hear One Shining Moment playing. The emotion of the song along with the images from my dream brought a tear of joy to my eyestalks, and I thought to myself, “So, this is what a perfect bracket looks like.”
