Revisiting 2024

Greetings, salutations and Happy New Year from myCUmortgage headquarters, located in the cold tundra of Dayton, Ohio! I apologize if I complain too much about the cold weather. While I absolutely love this part of your lovely planet, the winter and dry air does not play well with my Amicitian skin and slime coat.

Nevertheless, the blog and the credit union mortgage business must go on, no matter the weather conditions. Speaking of which, our area is smack dab in the middle of two snowstorms. Earlier this week, we had nearly a foot of snow, and today they’re calling for several more inches. Shazbat! I just completed the snow removal and de-icing process from the last storm, and now I’m going to need to revisit it all.

Of course, revisiting things can be good. For instance, I learned the most effective and efficient ways to utilize my new snow shovel during Monday’s storm as well as the contours of the surrounding pavements, so when I revisit it all later today, it should provide for a smoother, more successful endeavor. My tentacles are crossed!

Another item that’s worth revisiting is this blog. With the New Year upon us, it’s the perfect time to pause and revisit the top 10 posts of 2024 that captured your attention and ultimately helped you become a great mortgage lender and get more members into homes. Whether you’re revisiting your favorites from the year or discovering them for the first time, these posts highlight what it means to be a successful credit union mortgage lender.

  1. Reviving Realtor Relationships: In late 2023, we welcomed Arch MI to provide some insights and tips on how to help you make your credit union stand out in today’s challenging market. 6. Out of the Corner: Nobody puts Terri Brancucci in a corner. Why? Because she fully embraces the most powerful element of credit union mortgage lending: Belief. Rediscover how Terri lives her core value of belief at work, at home and in her community.
  7. We’re Off to See… Meredith: Would you consider three-quarters of a mile to be walking distance? Most likely you would unless, that is, it’s at a tremendously steep incline. Take a visit to Meredith Grey’s “home” and discover the importance of good, detailed and thorough communication.
  8. Not So Scary After All: Myths and urban legends, by their very nature, are often driven by fear. In the minds of homebuyers, there are a lot of myths (and maybe even a few urban legends) in their perceptions of mortgage lending. We’re here to help you show them that these fears are, for the most part, completely irrational.
  9. I’ll Be Back: The credit union way of doing business is strongly driven by human-to-human contact and communication. That “personal touch,” if you will. With the increasing usage and practicality of Artificial Intelligence, or AI, the CU way could be in jeopardy, right? Not at all! In fact, AI could bolster the efforts of credit unions and their mortgage lending operations.
  10. This Oatmeal is Just Right: Every member is unique as are their needs in the home loan process. They all have something specific or special to make their dream a reality. It’s your job to ensure that something special is delivered and communicated in a way that they will understand. It’s all about achieving that perfect blend of information and communications.
